Conservation talk: Henry VIII
With Gallery conservator Simon Ives
Gallery conservator, Simon Ives, talks about his restoration of the Gallery’s portrait of Henry VIII, c.1540, purchased by the Gallery in 1961. The portrait has been the subject of a major conservation research and restoration project and will finally be returned to display for the first time in over fifty years during the 2018 Archibald Prize in the 15th–19th c European art galleries. It will be presented along with a ground breaking virtual reality interactive which will enable visitors to explore the analytical data including hi-resolution elemental maps which reveal the secrets of the paintings mysterious genesis.
