Colour in context: Anina Rich on synaesthesia

In tonight’s talk, Associate Professor Anina Rich from the Department of Cognitive Science at Macquarie University discusses synaesthesia, an interesting condition in which stimulation in one sense generates an experience in another. Hear from Anina Rich as she discusses the connection between art and synaesthesia.

How does colour feed into our identities? Colour became a key element for artists like Matisse and led to a radical rethink about art in general. Zena O’Connor will discuss this revolution in colour and how branding emerged when artists were changing their ideas about colour. She will also look at the use of colour in advertising, retail and social media and the way colour is often a key element of brand strategy.

Heralded as a pioneer in Australian Fashion, Linda Jackson is known for her colourful, striking textiles inspired by Australia’s natural landscape. At a time when Australian fashion was solely influenced by European trends, Linda and her design partner Jenny Kee reinvented the wheel, drawing inspiration from wildlife, landscapes and nations much closer to home. Hear Linda discuss the importance of colour in fashion and design in conversation with Australian VOGUE’s Sustainability Editor-at-Large and fashion journalist, Clare Press.
