Auslan tour: Every portrait tells a story

For visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing

Join writer and actor Kate Matairavula for a tour uncovering the hidden stories behind famous portraits in the Gallery’s collection.

Kate began her artistic career at the hands of her mother, a professional visual artist, making clay pinch pots and doing exercises from the book Drawing on the right side of the brain. She then became an actor, performing with Australian Theatre of the Deaf and touring all over Australia and New Zealand. As well as performing, devising and writing works, Kate regularly gives workshops and presentations on a range of topics from theatre skills to sign language. Being an arts facilitator combines her passions of learning, access, sign language and the arts.

Meet at information desk.

Part of our regular program of Auslan-interpreted events held throughout the year on the last Sunday of the month (except December), with a different focus each month.

This tour will be delivered in Auslan and interpreted into English.
