Art in mind 2019

A mindful art-viewing experience

Art in Mind is a contemplative gallery experience that encourages more intimate and personal connections to artworks from the collection, by bringing greater awareness to what one sees through mindfulness techniques.

Present-moment awareness can be essential to appreciate any work for art, but it can be elusive in this age of relentless acceleration. Contemplative, mindful viewing can relax the mind and body, helping one consider ideas with a fresh perspective and stimulating new insights.

Sessions are intimate and exclusive. Sharing the space with only 18 other participants, you’ll get to know artworks in a peaceful environment before the Gallery doors open to the public.

Comments from past participants…

“I have a new love for art.”
“A most enjoyable entrée into using a set of tools to develop focus and clarity of thought.”
“An invigorating program giving wonderful new ways to engage with art.”
“An opportunity to reflect and connect with art and oneself.”

Led by mindfulness educator Steve Pozel, you engage deeply with one artwork at a time, observing its physical characteristics in a focused and attentive way. Steve creates an atmosphere conducive to staying 'in the moment’ and honing the sense of sight. No prior experience in the arts or with mindfulness is required.

After the viewing, enjoy sharing your mindful experience with other participants over a fragrant cup of tea made with fresh garden herbs in the Chiswick at the Gallery restaurant.

Steve Pozel has worked with leading creatives across design, craft, architecture and visual arts over the last three decades. He was director of The Power Plant, Canada’s premiere centre for contemporary art, before his role as CEO and Creative Director of the Australian Design Centre in Sydney. In more recent years, he has been pursuing an exploration around the intersection between creativity, innovation and mindfulness within both the educational and corporate sectors.
