Art appreciation lecture series 2021 - Term 1
Love, sex and death: The constant companions of art
We are pleased to announce the return of the highly popular Art Appreciation lecture series Love, sex and death: The constant companions of art in a refreshed format for 2021.
Whilst Oscar Wilde once stated that ‘Life imitates art far more than art imitates life’, this Art Appreciation lecture series will look at how love, sex and death, and artists’ obsessions with these, underpin much of the art that has been produced for millennia.
The theme will provide new information about some artists who we thought we knew but whose skills and output were sometimes driven by other desires. We also look at why some artists died lonely and under-appreciated whilst others had celebrated careers, grand funerals and elaborate tombs.
Over three terms, some of this country’s most revered art historians and curators will explore and reveal the constant companions of art.
Please note that the 2021 series will be released on a term by term basis. Book now for Term 1.
