Operation Art in its 19th year at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

The Gallery is celebrating its 19th year of hosting Operation Art, an annual exhibition of children’s art from schools throughout NSW.

Operation Art is an initiative of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in association with the New South Wales Department of Education. The program is proudly sponsored by ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology organisation) and supported by the Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

The 50 works now on display were selected from 848 artworks exhibited in the 2016 Operation Art exhibition at the Newington Armory Gallery, Sydney Olympic Park. Once leaving the Art Gallery of NSW they will tour to regional galleries throughout the state before becoming part of the Children’s Hospital’s permanent art collection for children and their families to enjoy.

The hospital’s art collection includes sculptures, paintings and prints by many well-known Australian artists as well as the works contributed by ‘Operation Artists’. Operation Art also donates works to regional hospitals so that more patients can enjoy art by young people.

Operation Art tour dates:
Art Gallery of New South Wales 13 – 23 April 2017
Cowra Art Gallery 15 May – 10 June 2017
The Glasshouse Gallery 30 June – 28 August 2017
Maitland Regional Gallery 16 September – 19 November 2017
Wollongong Art Gallery 5 December 2017– 2 January 2018
