Medium: collage using assorted paper, fabric, cardboard and other materials

We looked at artwork by Wiradjuri artist Karla Dickens including Holy Mother 1. We looked at a number of her collage artworks and watched a video of her talking about how and why she made them. After that, we designed and created our own collages about important events and people using various materials.

This is about a wool shed where Pop and I like to shear sheep, on most holidays. We mark lambs too and crutch them. I love working with Pop.

This is a picture of my second birthday. I tried to remember what I did in New Zealand until 2013, which  is when I left. Mum, Dad, Uncle, Nanny, cat, dog and I were at the park playing hide and seek and having a great time. My uncle was in for hide and seek.  He found  Mum, Dad  and  Nanny but he couldn’t find  me.

We looked at artwork by Wiradjuri artist, Michael Riley and discussed how photographs are composed to tell a story. In the series of photographs, ‘A Common place: portraits of Moree Murries’, Michael let people take control of the process and choose how they would be photographed and with whom or what.

For these collaborative pieces, students also took control of the creative process and chose who they wanted to be photographed with, whereabouts in the school and how they wanted to be portrayed.

They then used cut-outs of these photos to re-create these images as cyanoprints.

This picture is all about friendship and how it brings different people and  cultures together. Friends are important to us because when you're feeling  down, they’re always there to help you. Good friends are ones that check in on you if you're not the best at times. We think that’s why friendship is special to have.
