Go behind the scenes of Nina Chanel Abney’s FRAMILY TIES and watch this acclaimed American artist’s first exhibition in Australia come to life.

Abney has brought her ‘framily’ with her to Sydney from New York, creating a wallpapered living room furnished with tender portraits of friends and fellow creatives. The room also reveals artistic ‘family ties’ to Henri Matisse and his cut-outs, and to the profoundly Matissean collages of the great Black modernist Romare Bearden (1911–88).

Abney’s FAMILY TIES is one of four contemporary artist commissions for Matisse Alive, a vibrant gallery-wide festival of Matisse featuring new work, projects and art from the collection.
