amby downs is the musical pseudonym of interdisciplinary artist Tahlia Palmer who creates predominantly place-based sound works to creatively engage with processing trauma to further decolonise mind, spirit and body.
Palmer’s playlist speaks of her personal politics and her experience of colonialism. It also reflects on the recent extended pandemic lockdown that saw extreme bouts of isolation mixed with a focused support and connection with her local community. Palmer describes the playlist as indicative of her early influences, mixed with some of her personal favourites. Post punk, garage, metal, contemporary classical, post rock, rock, slowcore and ambient all collide, melding seamlessly across the 15 tracks.
The music assembled here is filled with energy and emotion. It is dark and weaves its way under your skin, shuttling you into the world of Tahlia Palmer, giving context and insight into the music she produces as amby downs.

Tahlia Palmer is an artist of Yuwaalaraay/Koamu and European descent who lives in Narrm / Melbourne. Her amby downs musical project explores history, identity and connection to Country through layers of distorted noise, cavernous reverberations and field recordings. What began as soundtracks to accompany a series of short films has developed into one of the most original and inspiring recorded ambient and noise projects emanating from the southern hemisphere. In 2021 amby downs released Liminal, a formidable work that has cemented Tahlia Palmer deep within the international ambient and noise music scene.
