My stimulus for Creation by compulsion came from an obsessive desire to generate a spark. This instant gratification and my longing to control the mark-making potential of the medium are captured in the circular motif throughout the series. The use of colour and the ashy footprint left behind from the unleashing of heat represent the infinite cycle of fire and the desire to re-ignite. The post-ignition phase results in a new aesthetic, recognising the visual yet destructive qualities of fire.
