The aging population is an increasingly palpable issue. The ‘Australian dream’ is continually becoming less attainable as buying a house and being heard in the political debate become things of the past. The large population of baby boomers is declining into old age and creating an economic burden that younger generations must carry. This sentiment is epitomised in my artwork through the pressure of the hands upon each portrait. Generations that are not economically stable are expected to support other larger generations. This is represented through the backbone shape of the composition, illustrating that young people are the backbone of society.
