‘Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave and grow old wanting to get back to.’ – John Pearce.
As humans we create our own nests which we call home, filling them with our stories yet, ultimately, we leave them empty as we move forward in life. Thus, a nest represents the unfulfilled potential of its inhabitants and the history of place. Drawing inspiration from Shaun Tan’s Tales from outer suburbia, through photography and the tactile nature of sculpture my work explores the unique relationship between individuals and their surrounding constructs: the many factors that define ‘home’.
