Below the surface is a collection of works initially inspired by botanical art illustration and its scientific approach to the observation and depiction of the plant world. An investigation into the patterns and layers of various plants and their intrinsic aesthetics has led me to interpret and create my own understanding of a plant’s cell and internal make-up. My work embodies the concept that there is more to what you see than what lies on the surface. This can be applied literally or metaphorically in my work. Elements within my art represent another layer, and with that layer comes a greater insight.
