Thomas Woodhead Carnival of the harlequin
Carnival of the harlequin delves into the enchanted machines of childhood fantasy. The fanciful creatures were inspired by the humour and other-worldliness of the anthropomorphised machines of Shaun Tan, Hayao Miyazaki’s animations, and the medieval mechanics of Leonardo da Vinci. The title refers to the work of surrealist Joan Miró, where fantastic critters arise from our subconscious when our inner child is free to play. My characters emerged from that same playground.
