‘A society is defined not only by what it creates, but by what it refuses to destroy.’ – John Sawhill.
My work challenges the audience to understand the glorified suburban life we continually desire in a commercially contextualised society. The recycled cardboard is employed to explore suburbia as part of our environment, reflecting our proud ability to create and sustain. In contrast the organic lines reflect an enthused admiration for suburbia, even though it may not reflect perfect architectural integrity. Although we have the ability to progress structurally, we continue to recycle suburbia as a representation of achievement in a materialistic society.
