Lauren Sussman Scattering the grain

Work by Lauren Sussman

Scattering the grain refers to an anthropological essence with an ethnographical thesis. Through the incorporation of print and sculpture, the way in which various cultural identities have combined is expressed. The variety of native plants suggests that agriculture is analogous to the different cultures of which they are a part. The use of books and stamps conveys the notions of language, movement and dispersion. The works displayed in and out of museum boxes imply that cultural uniqueness and identity are at their essence engrained but are simultaneously vulnerable to corruption as the essential grain can be modified.
