Laura McKell Left behind

Work by Laura McKell

After viewing my own collection of family photos and home videos, I became concerned that the memories which were once vivid had begun to fade. I used my artwork to capture and explore my own value of childhood. The main graphite drawing depicts my favourite doll. The detail resonates with my own effort to retain and preserve my childhood memories. The toys in Perspex boxes are designed to act like a museological display in effort to preserve their memory, innocence and value. The naïve paintings are a direct expression of childhood, manipulated to explore how the passing of time may distort our perception of the past.
