Harriet Gordon-Anderson Mother

Work by Harriet Gordon-Anderson

This work is a study of my mother in her waking hours. As a result of having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, much of her time is spent in bed; however she is rarely granted sleep. This feeling of entrapment and frustration surrounding a place of rest and healing has been the focus of these images, which have been placed in front of one another to convey layers of thought and dreaming as she drifts in and out of consciousness. The soft, permeable nature of silk alludes to breath and movement in rest, and continues the motif of white bed sheets. Mother is an attempt to capture these moments of frailty during the night and early hours of morning.
