Charlotte Douglas-Eggins Antithetical aesthetics

Work by Charlotte Douglas-Eggins

Humans have a compulsive tendency to obscure the truth in every facet of life and, growing up, I have noticed this propensity more and more: from the wand of the airbrush to the spin of a politician. By gluing together found objects and drawing, I created an abstract cityscape to represent society. Spraying the work in pastel colours and decorating it with kitsch conveys the notion of shrouding the truth with the euphemious frills of deceit. If we dare look beneath the tack and trimmings we reach the truth… it’s all just rubbish.
