Julia Suttle Untitled (after Dale Frank)

Work by Julia Suttle

My body of work became an exploration of the surrealist theory of physic automatism that states that the physical act of painting materialises as an outlet for the unconscious psyche and bodily imagination becoming a dual depiction of the psychological and physical states. This concept came about through the investigation of abstract and surrealist artists such as Dale Frank, Salvador Dali and Jackson Pollock. The physicality of the painting itself is manifested in the fluvial qualities of the medium while the unpremeditated performance of the painting’s creation allows it to become a visual representation of its creator.
