Moya Dyring Memorial Studio – two-month tenancy

Moya Dyring was an Australian artist and great supporter of young Australian painters and students visiting Paris. She lived at Quai d’Anjou on the Ile St Louis, almost opposite the Cité Internationale des Arts. After her death in 1967, her friends and family purchased a studio in her memory at the Cité for the continued support of visiting artists.

Dr Denise Hickey Memorial Studio – three-month tenancy

Dr Denise Hickey was an art educator and former Trustee of the Art Gallery of NSW. This studio was named by the Art Gallery to honour Dr Hickey’s life-long dedication to the support and education of Australian artists.

• Residencies are awarded to up to ten applicants a year.

• There is no stipend and fares to and from Paris are not included.

• The successful applicant must pay a monthly maintenance fee to the Cité authorities.

In memory of Eva Breuer, one of Australia’s most loved and prolific art dealers who made a signification contribution to Australian art in the 1980s and 90s, the Breuer Foundation awards $25,000 to a young Australian female artist for the purpose of travel and study in Paris.

The Barbara Tribe Travelling Art Scholarship of $25,000 is awarded every two years, beginning in 2020, to an Australian female sculptor in conjunction with the Cité residency program.

Based in Great Britain for most of her adult life, Barbara Tribe is one of Australia’s most significant 20th-century sculptors, recognised for her work with Rayner Hoff and for her own figurative and portrait sculptures.

Tribe was one of a group of sculptors employed by Hoff to assist with the major work of his career, the Anzac Memorial in Sydney’s Hyde Park. She has exhibited in England with the Royal Academy, Newlyn Society, St Ives Society of Artists and Society of Portrait Sculptors. In 1935 Tribe was awarded the New South Wales Travelling Art Scholarship, which allowed her to relocate to England. This was the first time the scholarship had been awarded to a sculptor and the first time it had been awarded to a woman.

Cité residency program

• Open to visual artists, or those pursuing research in the visual arts, including arts professional, scholar and postgraduate student.

• Australian citizens or permanent residents who have been residing in Australia for at least two years.

• The successful applicant must submit a report detailing the outcomes of their residency.

Eva Breuer Travelling Art Scholarship

• Open to female artists, 35 years or under at the time of application.

• The winner will be chosen from successful applicants of the Cité residency program.

• The winner will be required to attend the winner’s reception at the Art Gallery.

Barbara Tribe Travelling Art Scholarship

• Open to female sculptors.

• The winner will be chosen from successful applicants to the Cité residency program.

Applications are closed

• The studio residencies will be judged by a panel consisting of Art Gallery staff.

• The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
