Contemporary app for iPad
Contemporary: Art Gallery of NSW lets you explore featured artists and works from our contemporary collection – including the John Kaldor Family Collection – on an iPad. It includes some of the most important artists of our time, from Francis Alÿs to Sol LeWitt, Richard Long to Bill Viola.
Get closer to the artwork than possible in the Gallery. Zoom into images to see fine details, discover stories of the artists and the art, go behind the scenes with videos, interviews with leading artists and audio commentary from Gallery curators, and get simple explanations of art terms, including movements such as conceptual art and minimalism.
Many works in the app formed part of the first display in our new contemporary galleries at the Art Gallery of NSW, launched in 2011. The display was revitalised in 2012 and additional content has been added to the app. Another update is planned for later in 2013.
This is the first in a suite of apps we’re creating around the Gallery’s collections.
At the Gallery
In our contemporary galleries, you can explore the app on iPads in the UBS ArtZone.
The first release of the Gallery’s Contemporary app is available free on the App Store. It works with both iPad 2 and iPad. An internet connection is needed to view some content. As new content is added, the app will automatically prompt you about updates.
