The Public Programs Department is an education and research centre dedicated to designing programs that make the Gallery's exhibitions and collections accessible to the Gallery's wide-ranging audience. The Department aims to inject a sense of excitement, satisfaction and enjoyment into visiting the Gallery. Staffed by audience specialists, the Department organises artists talks, lectures, film series, school holiday workshops and family programs with performance and dance, including Gallery Kids. It also runs a range of educational programs, publications and student exhibitions such as ARTEXPRESS, the annual exhibition of outstanding works of art submitted for the Higher School Certificate. Public Programs also organises drawing and painting workshops presented by prominent Australian artists and a 20-week diploma course in Contemporary Art. Publications produced by the Department range from the Exhibitions & Events brochure to education kits for the collection and temporary exhibitions. Public Programs is also responsible for the Gallery's website, image library and the production of videos related to the collection and exhibitions.
