Travel: Art of Japan
Torii Gate, Miyajima
Discover the art of Japan with experts… and help build the Gallery’s collection
Orion Expedition Cruises, in conjunction with the Art Gallery of NSW, is offering an all-inclusive educational voyage around the southern island of Honshu.
A specially designed, all-inclusive voyage
The itinerary has been tailored for those keen to know more about Japanese culture – traditional and contemporary. The tour will embrace ancient shrines, gardens and museums as well as contemporary art and architecture. A highlight will be time spent at the renowned contemporary art complex on Naoshima Island.
With illuminating talks by experts
The experts accompanying the group and giving talks on board and at the sites include Jackie Menzies, head curator of Asian art at the Gallery; Tony Bond, the Gallery’s assistant director, curatorial services, and his artist wife Anne Graham, who has worked in Japan; and Dr Julian Droogan, a scholar of comparative religions, archaeology and material culture.
Helping us buy art
