Contemporary Collection Benefactors
The Contemporary Collection Benefactors supports the development of the permanent collection of contemporary Australian art.
Funds raised by the CCB have been used to purchase work by noted contemporary practitioners including Aida Tomescu, Tim Maguire, Bill Henson, Fiona Hall, Howard Arkley and Janet Burchill.
Other aquisitions financed by CCB funds include Adam Cullen’s Comedic relief 2000, Neil Emmerson’s wood nymph triptych (the heart is a lonely hunter) 3 2006 and Nigel Milson’s two paintings Untitled (the incident) 2007-08, and, in conjunction with the Rudy Komon Memorial Fund, Julie Rrap’s Body double 2007.
Since its formation in 1993, the CCB has become one of the Gallery’s most active groups of patrons, passionate about contemporary art and culture. The group organises curator-led tours of contemporary exhibitions, artists’ studios and private collections, and coordinates visits to national and international art fairs and cultural events such as the Venice Biennale, the Adelaide Festival and the Melbourne Art Fair. Its main annual fundraising event – and one of the Gallery’s most successful – is a dinner and art auction at the Gallery, where major commercial galleries waive their commission on works by leading contemporary artists.
