As Buddhism spread from its birthplace in
India eastwards across the mountains and deserts of Central
Asia into China, Korea and Japan, northwards and westwards into
Pakistan and Afghanistan, and southwards to Southeast Asia,
it carried with it an iconography and an art that has inspired
creative instincts to the present day.
The spirit and imagination of the Buddhist faith transcends
both time and place. It is a faith so varied and so embracing
it knows no borders, only horizons.
