Born in Perth, Western Australia, Gail Hastings has exhibited in both Australia and internationally since completing her studies at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, in 1988. Hastings makes sculptural situations and in 1991 her work was included in Perspecta at the Art Gallery of NSW; and in 1992 the inaugural Primavera: The Belinda Jackson Exhibition of Young Artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. More recently it was included in the international group exhibition Kunst Nach Kunst (Art After Art) at the Neues Museum Weserburg Bremen, Germany, in 2002; and her most recent solo exhibition was plans, 2003, at Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne. From the end of 1999 Hastings has lived and worked in Sydney.
