Locations of artwork
Online
You can search or browse the entire Art Gallery of NSW collection online.
On display
About 5% of the collection is on display at the Gallery at any one time, either in our permanent galleries or temporary exhibitions, and can be viewed during normal Gallery open hours: 10am – 5 pm daily, Wednesdays until 9pm, except Christmas Day and Good Friday.
The online collection database can tell what is on display and where to find it. However, there are sometimes last-minute changeovers so if you are visiting to view a particular work, we recommend contacting the Gallery first on 02 9225 1744 to check.
Collection store
The vast majority of the collection is kept at the Gallery’s off-site collection store. Individuals and groups of up to 10 people can make an appointment to see specific works at the store, Monday to Friday, 10am – 3pm. Bookings must be made at least two weeks in advance.

Study room and archive
At the Gallery there are study collections that are open to the public by appointment. The study room houses works on paper – including prints, drawings, photographs and watercolours – from the collection, while the Gallery’s archive holds a significant number of artist archives. See study room and archives for more information, including opening hours, how to book and conditions of use.
