The holdings of the Art Gallery of NSW’s archive include a significant number of artists’ archives and papers and the records of several commercial galleries and art societies as well as the Gallery’s own administrative records.

The Edmund and Joanna Capon Research Library has one of the most outstanding collections of fine art publications, rare books and manuscripts in Australia, and it is open to members of the public. You can also search its catalogue and press clippings database online or make an online reference enquiry.

The Gallery produces a range of publications – some can be downloaded for free online, some for purchase through the Gallery Shop and all available in the research library and archive.
