Matilda Riddle Self-portrait

I chose to paint myself because I find the process quite restorative and cathartic. It allows time for personal reflection and examination, and I wanted to do this as a means of self-expression and displaying vulnerability. This self-portrait reflects an exploration of personal development and learning to love myself. But its painterly manner is symbolic of my connection to my mum. She has taught me to love art, and to love the ways that art can be used to heal and express myself more accurately than words ever could.
