David Dickson My grandfather

When my parents got divorced, my grandfather took my brother and me to live with him. He was old and wasn’t a very good cook, but he did his best and we developed a tight relationship with him over the years we were together. Not long after we moved in with him, he broke his back falling over and he never really recovered. This was really hard to deal with, especially to watch him deteriorate. This portrait is painted from my memory of him and some photos. He is smiling and laughing at an event, with my dad, not long before he passed away.
