Caroline Zilinsky The interrogation

oil on linen

98 x 98 cm

This is a painting of a British SAS troop in Baghdad, but given today’s political climate it could be anywhere in the world. I am interested in the darker aspects of human nature and how when fear, hatred and self-annihilation are left to run rampant, circumstances as absurd as war and the torture of another human being become an acceptable part of the everyday.

It is a curious thing to observe the beauty within the inherent ugliness of mankind. To me this is what makes us unique.
