Michelle Cawthorn Eunice

pen, graphite, watercolour and gouache on paper

108 x 79 cm

For some years now my work has been concerned with memory and its mutability. Pause for a minute and try remembering a moment from your childhood: does it change shape or seem hazy or hover at the edge of your consciousness?

Eunice represents a remembered me, both real and fictional all at once. When I try to recollect the girl I was, she is a strange amalgam of gestures and thoughts, unsure of her place in the world, stepping cautiously from girlhood into an uncertain future.
