David Disher Meet your doppelganger

In this painting, the doppelganger is a person’s potential for good and evil. Technologies of the self mean that you are responsible and you create yourself. What happens when you face the force of authority? We would like to think we could emerge as Pussy Riot. We’d like to think that we’d never become a monster like Putin. We are all capable of both.

Meet your doppelganger is set in a Palermo church. During my visit, I learnt to love the Sicilian attitude of ‘of course we’ve been conquered by everyone – who wouldn’t want to be Sicilian.’
