Louis Kahan Patrick White

This portrait by Louis Kahan of author Patrick White (1912-1990) is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of NSW. Kahan said he had painted the portrait from sketches made at the home of the respected but reclusive writer eight months previously for an illustration for a series on Australian writers in the literary journal Meanjin. The Gallery purchased Kahan’s portrait in 1963 for 400 guineas,
