The subject of this painting by AME Bale is Theo Philip Broinowski (1909-1960), who at the time the portrait was painted was a copy boy at The Argus newspaper. Originally, Broinowski was spelled Brownowski in the handwritten list of works for the 1926 Archibald Prize.
