In July 2009 a new state-government-imposed levy was raised on all car parking in the Sydney CBD. This means that car parking stations need to raise prices by 87.5% to meet the levy, resulting in the cancellation of the usual parking discounts for members. In order to secure a good rate for our staff, members and visitors, the Gallery met with four local car parks in the area to discuss the impact of the price rise and to ask for their best offers. The best overall offer was presented to us by the Domain Car Park, which offers $6 off the casual parking rate, Monday to Friday, when you have your parking ticket stamped in the Members' Lounge. See Domain Car Park rates. This arrangement was confirmed in August 2009. We apologise for the change in parking arrangements. We will constantly be updating information as it becomes available to us. We hope you understand that we have been working really hard to negotiate the best deal that we can for everyone, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work with these changes as best we can. We would also like to encourage members to be green and take advantage of the many forms of public transport available to access the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Bus 441 departs York St side of Queen Victoria Building on the hour and every 20 minutes during the week and every 30 minutes on weekends and public holidays. Frequent bus routes stop on Elizabeth St stop near Martin Place and also near David Jones and St James Station. See public transport timetables. The nearest train stations are St James and Martin Place. Both are 10 minutes walk to the Gallery. |
