My work is done in memory of John, my nanna’s brother, and the many photos he took of the Hawkesbury River landscape, which is now different from what he saw. John’s thoughts (from a letter he sent my nanna) echo through each piece of my work. Each piece acts as a fragment of my search for John’s Hawkesbury. John’s phototaking, boat journeys with my family and meandering around secluded beaches all intermingle to create the scenes I have painted onto canvas and transferred onto fresco blocks.
