Artist’s statement

My body of work uses the forms of nature as a metaphor for my experiences with perceptual dyslexia. The messages I receive from printed text and from the environment have been addressed by employing the vocabulary of words used in my artwork. Devices such as optical illusion and rugged, tempestuous landscapes have been used to share with the audience the difficulties and emotions encountered for victims of Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome.(Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome is a perceptual dysfunction and form of dyslexia affecting how the brain interprets the message it receives from the printed page and the environment.)
