The Contemporary Collection Benefactors (CCB) supports the development of the permanent collection of contemporary Australian art. Since its formation in 1993 it has become one of the Gallery's most active vital groups of patrons, passionate about contemporary art and culture. Funds raised by the group have been used to purchase work by a number of noted contemporary practitioners including Aida Tomescu, Tim Maguire, Bill Henson, Fiona Hall, Howard Arkley and Janet Burchill. In addition to the benefits enjoyed by other collection benefactors, the contemporary group organises a program of special events built around the Gallery's contemporary exhibitions and major national and international art events. The group organises exclusive, curator-led tours of contemporary exhibitions, artists studios and of private collections. CCB also coordinates visits to national and international art fairs and cultural events such as the Venice Biennale and the Adelaide Festival. For its main fund raising event the CCB runs a dinner and art auction at the Gallery. The evening, in which major commercial galleries waive their commission on works by leading contemporary artists, has become one of the most successful fundraising events on the Gallery's calendar.
