| The Arts of Islam International Symposium will introduce participants to the unrivalled private collection assembled by Professor Nasser David Khalili. Key themes of the exhibition will be explained and illustrated in this symposium: Islamic arts made in relation to the practices of prayer and pilgrimage, the rich Islamic tradition of illuminated manuscripts – including the first written history of the world – and the breathtaking array of Islamic arts exemplified in Persian and Ottoman painted miniatures, ceramics, enamelled and jewelled metalware, and finely woven carpets and textiles. Speakers include: Professor Nasser Khalili, Nahla Nassar, acting curator and registrar of the Khalili collection and Professor J.M.Rogers, honorary curator of the Khalili collection.
