OPENgallery!

Open Gallery is a major new educational program that will provide excursions to the Art Gallery of NSW for students from priority-funded schools. With the support of Optus, students who would otherwise not be able to visit the Gallery will be provided with the opportunity to directly engage with visual art. Our hope is that this experience will help students develop their relationship with art and their sense of belonging at the Gallery.

Open Gallery targets Year 7 Visual Arts students and teachers at designated high schools, from mainly Western and South Western Sydney, Hunter/Central Coast, Illawarra and country NSW regions.

Each week one priority-funded school (around 60 students) will spend a day at the Gallery free of charge. Their day includes a tour of the Gallery’s permanent collection including Australian and Aboriginal collections, a discussion tour and lunch. Transport to and from the school is also provided. The Gallery will see more than 2000 students, from 30 schools, per year for the next three years.

If you are from a low socio-economic status school community and are interested in participating, please contact us.
