Professional development
Engage with the Gallery’s collection and exhibitions as a resource for teaching practice and classroom programming.
The Gallery offers intensive and inspiring teacher professional development programs catering specifically for K-6 and 7-12 educators and trainee teachers. Relevant links to the Visual Arts syllabus are incorporated into each program, which includes lectures, discussions and workshops by educators, historians, artists and critics.
These are detailed on our bi-annual exhibition highlights poster.
Learning Symposium
The Learning Symposium aims to support all educators in the Visual Arts – primary, secondary, tertiary and adult educators – with fresh ideas from the world of art and education. We invite respected artists, art historians, curators and educators to respond to current issues relevant to classroom programming. Each year a new theme will be addressed and announced in Term 3.
This professional development symposium replaces Focus Fest at the beginning of Term 1 each year and incorporates the ARTEXPRESS Teachers Day.
For details, see Learning Symposium.
Special teachers events
Designed for professional and personal enrichment, teachers special events afford the exclusive opportunity to learn about new exhibitions in a convivial atmosphere. Catch up with colleagues and Gallery education coordinators and rediscover your love for art. Gain new insights and access new resources, and experience the exhibition before the public arrives.
For details, see Special teachers events.
Teachers study sessions
Study sessions are designed for the professional and personal enrichment of Years 7-12 teachers across a range of Key Learning Areas.
These three-hour intensive sessions offer an in-depth study of a key exhibition relevant to a specific syllabus area other than Visual Arts. The aim is to develop the Gallery as a core resource for ongoing classroom programming to more diverse education audiences.
Programs may include presentations from curators, artists, gallery educators and syllabus experts, along with exhibition viewings and behind-the-scenes tours.
Teachers days
Teachers days focus on key issues and ideas related to major exhibitions. These intensive, inspiring days provide food for thought as well as practical ideas for the classroom, and may include lectures, discussions and workshops by educators, historians, artists and critics.
