Adventures in Asia

The Adventures in Asia education kit has been produced to extend access to the Gallery's Asian collections beyond the museum and into the classroom. Sixteen individual colour images of major works from the Gallery's collection are accompanied by background information and related student activities for years K-6 and 7-12. The selected images reflect the diverse cultural traditions and varying historical contexts of China, Japan, India and Indonesia as well as a range of art forms - sculpture, painting, ceramics and decorative arts.

Focus on Photography

This education kit has been developed to help students understand and appreciate the medium of photography through key works in the collection. By focusing on a selection of sixteen significant photographers and their work, it provides an introduction to the diversity of photographic practice and related issues and ideas. For each artist, the kit includes an image of a key work and image of a related, supplementary work by that or another photographer, statements by the photographer and/or critic or commentator, and extended commentary and activities and questions for primary and secondary students.

Encounters with Contemporary Art

This education kit has been developed to help students understand and appreciate contemporary art through key works in the collecion. It focuses on the work of sixteen artists, from Australia and overseas: Hany Armanious, Ian Burn, Simryn Gill, Tim Johnson, Anish Kapoor, Anselm Kiefer, Maria Kozic, Tatsuo Miyajima, Tracey Moffatt, Mike Parr, Gerhard Richter, Doris Salcedo, Cindy Sherman, Haim Steinbach, Imants Tillers and Jenny Watson. For each artist, the kit includes an image of a key work, images of supplementary works, statements by the artist and a critic or commentator, an extended commentary, selected references and activites for primary and secondary students.

Contemporary education kit

 

Art Speaks: Japanese

Sixteen Japanese artworks spanning a range of media and subjects form the basis of this resource for Japanese language learners. Colour images of the works are accompanied by background information in Japanese and English and student activities. In addition, there are tasksheets for Years 4-12, comprehensive teaching notes and a listening CD. The kit draws on the expertise in arts education of the Gallery and in Japanese language of the Japan Foundation, Sydney.

Art Speaks: Italian L'Arte Parla Italiano

Based around 16 artworks from the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, this kit has been developed to provide an educational resource for teachers of Italian language and culture. Through the inspiration of art, students can develop both their language skills and their understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts. The language activities in this kit are specifically linked to the NSW Italian syllabus stages 3 to 5 and have been designed to complement syllabus objectives.
