Collection Programs: Asian Art

Adventures in Asia Tour

In this core activity for years K-6 in the Asian Gallery Volunteer Guides engage small groups of up to ten students through looking, story-telling, role-playing and practical activities.
During their Adventures students will:

  • Imaginatively explore destinations from the realms of the Hindu gods to a Buddhist temple, from an ancient Chinese tomb to the emperor’s palace, from a small Japanese tea room to a samurai's castle

  • Recognise a variety of materials and techniques including ceramics, ink painting, stone sculpture, lacquer and metal work, textiles and prints

  • Hear stories and myths which bring to life religious beliefs and traditions

  • Identify symbols and discover their meanings
  • Explore links between customs and traditions in Australian and Asian families and communities

  • Recognise and respect Asia's contribution to world culture
