Manioo workshop (Years K-6)

Manioo is an Eora word meaning "to pick up anything".
- Troy, Jakelin The Sydney Language Australian Dictionaries Project AIATSIS, Canberra 1994

This free workshop has been designed by the Gallery to specifically support and encourage underachieving, gifted K-6 students in an effort to meet their intellectual, artistic, social and emotional needs through using the Gallery's permanent collection as a key resource within this "special environment".

The workshop is designed for disadvantaged, underachieving gifted children from differing backgrounds with a focus on Indigenous children.

Key Indigenous artists, whose work is in the Gallery's permanent collection, will talk to students about their artwork in either the Prints and Drawings Study Room, or the Yiribana Gallery.

Artists will discuss their artistic practice and will assist the students with an art-making workshop in either printmaking or painting. The program will also include a discussion tour of the Yiribana collection with the Gallery's coordinator of Aboriginal Programs.
