Teacher Professional Development

Engage with the Gallery's collection and exhibitions as a resource for teaching practice and classroom programming.

The Gallery offers intensive and inspiring Teacher Professional Development programs catering specifically for K-6 and 7-12 educators and trainee teachers. Relevant links to the Visual Arts syllabus is incorporated into each program as well as lectures, discussions and workshops by educators, historians, artists and critics.

Focus Fest Teachers Conference

Focus Fest is a two-day conference for teachers, held annually in Term 4, exploring a key theme, topic or issue in the visual arts through the Gallery's collection and temporary exhibitions as a resource for teaching practice and classroom programming. Includes lectures, presentations and workshops by artists, museum educators, curators, critics, secondary school teachers and experts in related fields.

Teachers Days

An intensive and inspiring day focusing on key issues and ideas related to major exhibitions. Food for thought as well as practical ideas for the classroom. May include lectures, discussions and workshops by educators, historians, artists and critics.

ARTEXPRESS Teachers Days

The ARTEXPRESS Teachers Day is held annually in Term 1. It is designed to stimulate the development of classroom strategies and resources through presentations investigating Visual Arts student and teacher, artist and gallery practice.

The one-day program includes presentations by HSC students, Visual Arts teachers, museum educators, curators and practicing artists exploring insights into the annual ARTEXPRESS exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Teachers Study Sessions

Teachers Study Sessions are held regularly throughout the year, designed for the professional and personal enrichment of Years 7-12 teachers across a range of Key Learning Areas (KLAs).

These three-hour intensive sessions offer an in-depth study of a key exhibition relevant to a specific syllabus area other than Visual Arts. The aim is to develop the Gallery as a core resource for ongoing classroom programming to more diverse education audiences.

Programs may include presentations from curators, artists, gallery educators and syllabus experts, along with exhibition viewings, behind the scenes tours, resources and refreshments.
10am - 1pm or 2pm - 5pm on selected dates. $42.50 per person

Monet French language teachers' afternoon

Exhibition Previews

An opportunity to learn about key forthcoming major exhibitions, their associated teaching strategies and education programs, while networking with Gallery and teaching colleagues. May include slide lectures, floor talks, exhibition viewings, resources, entertainment and refreshments.
5.15pm - 7.30pm on selected dates. $20 per person
