The core role of the Teacher-Lecturer position is to deliver engaging and relevant education programs about the Gallery's collection and exhibitions. The position primarily addresses Years 7-12 students and teachers through programs including Discussion Tours, Artist Workshops, Studio Sessions and Study Mornings, but also audiences including K-6 and tertiary students and adults and families for selected programs. Teacher-Lecturers work closely with the Coordinators of Education to provide engaging and enjoyable, interpretive and educational programs which explore issues relevant to the Gallery, Visual Arts and selected New South Wales Department of Education curriculum. There are currently fifteen Teacher Lecturers working across a wide variety of programs. The focus of the position is to: Explore, interpret and contextualise the exhibitions and collections at the Gallery. Engender an appreciation and enjoyment of original art objects, the gallery as a public resource and the value of the Visual Arts. Maintain on-going research of the Gallery's collection, exhibitions, museology, visual arts education and other related areas. Facilitate the communication of feedback to the Coordinators of Education on the appropriateness and suitability of programs for the education audiences the Gallery is engaging. Attend and contribute to quarterly education professional development meetings. Support and assist Coordinators of Education with program and resource development. Biannually, the Gallery interviews up to 10 people, usually in mid to late March, with up to 5 selected for training and assessment to become Teacher Lecturers, in the April school holidays. Critical Friends Years 7-12 Visual Arts Teachers Advisory groupCritical Friends are the Years 7-12 Visual Arts Teachers Advisory Group that consult with the Gallery on education programs, resources, the education audiences' needs and wider visual arts education issues. There are nine Critical Friends, outstanding teachers from a diverse range of schools including, metropolitan and regional, public and independent, with a variety of interests, specialisations and experiences in their teaching careers who are invited to participate in the group with the Senior Coordinator of Education Programs.
