  • About

'Of course Rimbaud … at a certain point … started to push further and to attribute musical sounds to the structure of his words … and all painters and poets I think try and aspire to music in that sense because music has the most immediate effect on the sensations. You know, it's obvious when you are in the concert hall, that everybody, after a while if the music is working, they all start to breathe in the same rhythm, you can feel it'.
    Sidney Nolan 1980

After settling at The Rodd in 1983, Nolan took up spray painting. Although his mission to return to abstraction had begun a few years before, it now produced the final blossoming of his painting.
