About
The setting is the oval-shaped basin of the locks at Dolo, a town on the Brenta. Moored at the quay is a 'burchiello', a type of passenger barge. Under the archway a butcher sits in his shop surrounded by carcasses. In front of the shop, a diminutive lacemaker works at a table.
